WCAG AA is the most widely adopted accessibility standard and is required by most accessibility laws worldwide. At the AA level, normal text (under 18pt or under 14pt bold) must have a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 against its background. Large text (18pt and above, or 14pt bold and above) has a relaxed requirement of 3:1. Non-text UI components and graphical objects also require 3:1 contrast against adjacent colors under WCAG 2.1. Achieving AA compliance is considered the baseline for professional web design and is required for government websites in many countries.
