Color Theory

The color wheel was first developed by Sir Isaac Newton in 1666 when he mapped the visible light spectrum into a circle. It serves as a foundational tool for understanding color relationships and creating harmonious color combinations. The standard 12-step color wheel arranges hues so that complementary colors sit opposite each other and analogous colors sit adjacent. Artists and designers use the color wheel to identify harmonies such as complementary, analogous, triadic, and split-complementary schemes.
