Kondisi di mana seseorang memiliki kemampuan terbatas untuk membedakan warna tertentu, memengaruhi sekitar 8% laki-laki dan 0,5% perempuan di seluruh dunia.
Color blindness results from absent or malfunctioning cone cells in the retina. The most common forms are red-green deficiencies (deuteranopia and protanopia), affecting about 6% of males. Blue-yellow deficiency (tritanopia) is much rarer. Total color blindness (achromatopsia) is extremely rare. Designers must account for color blindness by never relying solely on color to convey meaning, using patterns or labels alongside color coding, and testing designs with simulation tools. Choosing color palettes that remain distinguishable under common deficiencies is a key accessibility practice.
