Color Theory

Ton (Tone)

Eine Farbe, die durch Zugabe von Grau (Schwarz und Weiß) zu einem reinen Farbton entsteht und dessen Sättigung verringert.

Tones are more muted and subdued than the original hue, lying between tints and shades in character. Adding gray to any hue desaturates it without dramatically changing its lightness, resulting in colors that feel more natural and less intense. Tones are commonly found in nature and are popular in interior design and fashion because they are easy on the eye and harmonize well together. In color theory, toning is the most effective way to create sophisticated, understated palettes.
