Every color reproduction system has a limited gamut. An sRGB monitor, a CMYK printer, and the human eye each have different gamuts. Colors that fall outside a device's gamut cannot be accurately displayed or printed and must be approximated through a process called gamut mapping. The CIE 1931 chromaticity diagram is commonly used to visualize and compare gamuts, where larger triangles or shapes indicate wider color ranges. Understanding gamut is essential for color management, as it explains why some screen colors look different when printed.
