Tints are lighter variations of a base color. For example, adding white to red produces pink, which is a tint of red. Tints retain the original hue but reduce its saturation and increase its lightness. In web design, tints are commonly used for backgrounds, hover states, and subtle UI elements. Tailwind CSS shade scales from 50 to 400 generally represent tints of the base color. Tints convey softness, openness, and approachability in design.
