Artifact Brand Colors
Artifact was a personalized news reader app co-founded by Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, using AI to surface relevant articles tailored to individual reading interests. It was designed to cut through the noise of social media news feeds. Artifact's calm, editorial brand used restrained typography to signal quality journalism.
Recorded here is the official Artifact palette: Pomegranate (#EE4D1B), Black (#000000), and Anakiwa (#A1DDFF). Black alone reaches the 4.5:1 contrast ratio WCAG AA requires of normal-size body text on a white background, measuring 21:1; the other two are limited to backgrounds, display-size type, and non-text elements.

Accessibility of the Artifact palette
Of the 3 recorded colors, 1 reach the WCAG 2.1 AA ratio of 4.5:1 against a white background — the threshold normal-size body text must meet. Colors below that line are not failures of the palette: they remain valid as fills carrying white text, as large text at the 3:1 threshold, and as borders, icons, and other non-text elements, which SC 1.4.11 also holds to 3:1. A logotype set in such a color is exempt from the requirement entirely.
