A data file that describes the color characteristics of a device or color space, enabling accurate color translation between systems.
ICC (International Color Consortium) profiles serve as translators between different color spaces and devices. An input profile describes how a camera or scanner captures color, a display profile describes how a monitor renders color, and an output profile describes how a printer produces color. When an image tagged with one profile is displayed on a device with another profile, the color management system uses both profiles to convert colors as accurately as possible. Without proper profiling, colors may shift significantly between devices.
