두 색의 지각적 차이를 수치화하는 척도로, 값이 작을수록 두 색이 더 유사함을 나타냄.
델타 E(dE 또는 DE로 표기)는 일반적으로 CIELAB 같은 지각적으로 균일한 색공간에서 계산됩니다. 델타 E 1.0은 대부분의 사람이 지각할 수 있는 가장 작은 색 차이를 나타냅니다. 1.0 미만의 값은 대부분의 관찰자에게 감지되지 않고, 1~2는 가까이서 관찰해야 감지되며, 2~10은 얼핏 보아도 감지되고, 10을 넘으면 명백히 다른 색조로 보입니다. 여러 공식이 존재합니다. CIE76(Lab에서의 유클리드 거리), CIE94, 그리고 지각적 불균일성을 고려한 가장 정확한 CIEDE2000입니다. 델타 E는 제조업의 품질 관리, 색 매칭, 인쇄 정확도 검증에 필수적입니다.
