Overview

Black is the absence of visible light, rendered in the RGB additive model as rgb(0, 0, 0) — the point where all three color channels read zero. Its hex code #000000 marks the origin of the RGB color cube and the darkest value any display can produce. As one of the sixteen basic HTML named colors, black is standardized across CSS and is the default text color of most web documents. Having no hue or saturation, it sits outside the color wheel entirely and functions as a neutral, pairing legibly with nearly any foreground. In print and pigment systems black is a subtractive result, produced when a surface absorbs the full spectrum, which is conceptually the inverse of its additive definition on screen.

Black (#000000) is the absence of all reflected light, the darkest possible color in the RGB color model. As the foundation of typography and the universal contrast anchor, it is indispensable in virtually every design discipline. Psychologically, black conveys authority, elegance, sophistication, and in many contexts, luxury and finality.
